What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and highly capable Teacher of Physics to join our Science team here at Queen Elizabeth’s High School from 1 September 2023. There may also be the opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to be considered for the post of Head of Year (TLR 2b £5029). Head of Year carries an additional 10 periods of NCT a fortnight in addition to the standard 8 periods of NCT for a main scale teacher at QEHS. Please contact recruitment@qehs.lincs.sch.uk to receive additional details, if also interested in the possibility of the Head of Year post.

The role would ideally suit an individual who, along with the appropriate qualifications, is extremely motivated and passionate about the teaching and learning of Physics.

As we are such a large, friendly, supportive and forward-looking faculty there is always someone with whom you can discuss issues and develop new ideas. We are fortunate in being very well-resourced with practical work supported by a team of technicians and an experienced Team Leader Science Technician. We also have a teacher in charge of STEM who oversees a very popular STEM Society in which students go on trips and take part in weekly activities. In addition, there are also lots of exciting opportunities to get involved in, including whole school initiatives to enable you to develop and grow your career. New for this year, we also benefit from having a dedicated Progress and Learning Assistant who supports with student interventions and the delivery of academic mentoring in Science.

What the school offers its staff

The QEHS Science Faculty is a high performing faculty and very popular with students. We have recently been awarded the Platinum Level Science Mark.

The faculty is led by the Head of Science supported by a Head of Biology, a Head of Chemistry, and a Head of Physics. Each Head of Department oversees their own specialist area, so staff work in small teams as well as being part of the larger faculty. We have also recently appointed a Science Learning and Progress Assistant.

We are a large, forward-thinking faculty, with the unique ability to offer specialist teaching to our students. The faculty is friendly and supportive. We have staff in the teaching and technical teams who have a wealth of experience, as well as staff early in their career, and have trainee teachers working with us each year.

There are 12 laboratories, which are currently working through a programme of renovation to develop state of the art facilities. Three of these labs are brand new for 2022. We are very well resourced for both practical work and digital resources to support our students.

The faculty is well led and managed. As such, we are able to plan strategically to best support the students in our care, as well as each other. All staff new to the faculty are well supported and are provided with a comprehensive training programme to ensure competence in all areas of the science curriculum.

Reviews and observations consistently show teaching and learning to be good, or better. Faculty planning and policy is open to review and feedback from all stakeholders, and takes into consideration well-being and work life balance.

Commitment to safeguarding

Queen Elizabeth’s High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
