What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking newly qualified or experienced teachers of Psychology and Applied Psychology. A potential Head of Department role may also be available. Experience of teaching BTEC is not essential, but it would be beneficial. You should be committed, enthusiastic, and enjoy a challenge. You will be prepared to work hard within the team and be ambitious both on a personal level and for the department. The ability to motivate students, maintain standards, and be organised is vital.
What the school offers its staff
The Heart of Mercia Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), formed on 1 April 2019 and delivers post 16 education in Hereford, Stourbridge and Worcester. Hereford Sixth Form College is part of this Trust. The MAT has an annual budget of £28m and serves the needs of 5,500 students across the region.
Hereford Sixth Form College hasover 2000full-time 16-19 students and an excellent reputation for its results and extra-curricular provision.Rated Ofsted outstanding in 2023, the college consistently achieves one of the highest Advanced Level points scores per entry of over 100 SFC’s nationally and has outstanding value added results.
Psychology and Applied Psychology are two of the larger departments in this highly successful Sixth Form College, with Applied Psychology receiving an Outstanding Grade within the recent Ofsted inspection. In Applied Psychology, there are currently 6 first year and 4 second year BTEC groups. In Psychology, there are currently 9 first year and 8 second year single BTEC Certificate groups. There are 2 groups of Psychology GCSE that are an important part of the successful Level 2 provision. Examination results in both subjects have been consistently excellent, both in raw and value-added terms.
Teachers in Psychology and Applied Psychology work closely together, following a common programme and using a variety of methods. These posts provide an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified persons to join an experienced team of Psychology and Applied Psychology teachers. The departments are well-resourced, and the use of IT is being developed. Emphasis is placed on providing a supportive working environment for teachers, liaising over schemes of work, and sharing good practice.
