Teacher of Psychology job summary

Job title: Teacher of Psychology (additional hours may be available depending on

subject offer)

Salary: MPS / UPS + London Fringe

Hours: Part-time / full-time (dependent on subject offer)

Responsible to: Head of Science Faculty

Start Date: September 2026 (1st July for an ECT)

We require an enthusiastic teacher of Psychology to teach A level in a supportive and friendly Science Faculty that achieves excellent results and high standards. This is a part-time role and candidates interested in teaching additional hours should make this clear in their statement of application, referring to subjects that they may be able to offer. See our website for our full curriculum offer. We are looking for a creative and imaginative individual to help all our students to ‘achieve their potential and enjoy the journey’. The collaborative work environment in the Science Faculty encourages continuous professional development and career progression for staff. We welcome applications from both ECTs and experienced staff.

STEM subjects are highly valued and we are determined to challenge traditional stereotypes and to help our pupils break through any glass ceilings they may encounter. Psychology is a very well established subject with a strong uptake in the Sixth Form. Many of our pupils go ont to study Psychology at University. The Faculty is exceptionally well resourced, with new laboratories and modern equipment. The enrichment offered to pupils is extensive including an annual Science Fair, Brain Day and many other themed activities, trips, visits and guest speakers. The collaborative work environment in Science encourages continuous professional development and career progression for staff.

Visitors tell us that our school is a friendly, lively and stimulating community where we emphasise the importance of the individual’s contribution and take pleasure in sharing and celebrating achievement. They commend the good behaviour of the pupils and their thirst for knowledge. Bishop’s is a diverse community that offers mutual support and encouragement and expects everyone within it to respect others’ heritage, cultures, religion and beliefs. We hope that the values, self-discipline and sense of personal worth that pupils gain here will be a support throughout their lives as British and Global Citizens. We welcome applications from candidates from racially minoritised backgrounds and from other groups that are underrepresented in the UK education system.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the school at a time of growth and development. Science subjects make a huge contribution to the life of the school and we are looking for a candidate who will help to extend this work.

The school's Admissions’ Code gives priority places to children of staff and we give high priority to staff development. Staff are able to apply for our Professional Development Award which provides bursary payments to help finance CPD that goes beyond the school’s usual training programme.

We take safeguarding of our students extremely seriously and an enhanced disclosure will be sought through the Disclosure and Barring Service as part of the school’s pre-employment checks.
