Teacher of Science job summary

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join our successful Science department. This post could suit an ECT as well as a more experienced candidate. A specialism in Chemistry or Physics is desirable but is not essential.

The department is comprised of seven members of staff, including the Head of Department. Currently there are six GCSE classes, including one Triple Science class and three KS5 classes. Our key stage 4 and 5 results have been on a three year upward trend, making this an excellent time to join the Science team. The Department benefits from a weekly timetabled collaborative planning period.

The person appointed will be well supported through our teaching and learning coach, a well-established professional studies programme and through a comprehensive induction process. The school offers bespoke CPD opportunities ranging from National Professional Qualifications support to supporting MA programmes.

Our recent OFSTED inspection in May 2024 made the following comments about teaching and relationships at school.:

Pupils are highly positive about their school. Staff are highly ambitious for all pupils, and pupils recognise and value this.

Pupils’ behaviour is good. Lessons are calm and purposeful. Pupils’ attitudes to learning are positive.

The curriculum is ambitious for all pupils and provides a strong foundation for their future learning. In most subjects, staff clearly set out what pupils need to know, and the order in which they need to learn it.

Teachers have detailed subject expertise.

Our school vision is to ensure every student realises their potential, through every member of our community having high aspirations for success, both within and beyond the classroom. You will be joining a highly skilled staff, who are supportive, show determination and resolve.

Why should you work at The Beaconsfield School.

A co-educational secondary school with 880 students, a growing Sixth Form and just fewer than 100 staff.

As a school we are creative in our curriculum and we treat each child as an individual; because of this, learning and progress is at the centre of everything we do. We work towards making the selective system irrelevant.

We want every student who attends the school to reach their full potential academically. We also put great value on extra-curricular clubs and activities. During any one week there are over 50 clubs or activities running for students. We believe that this complements their academic studies, helps them to develop into well rounded individuals and enables them to make a positive contribution to the community.

We have wonderful facilities including a purpose built drama studio, 2 Apple Mac suites, a ratio of 1 computer to every 2.5 students, interactive whiteboards in each classroom, specialist technology classrooms and a sports hall. We are a well-equipped school that gives our students every opportunity to engage in their learning. Our school environment is maintained to the highest standard and students are expected to respect this at all times.
