Teacher of Science job summary

Discover science at Crawshaw HERE

‘The team chemistry at Crawshaw is positively explosive! Expect inquisitive students, a supportive environment, and the occasional unexpected experiment—strictly in the name of education, of course!’

Our Science Faculty Vision - A high-quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity. All students will be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Students will be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.

Our Team – We are a thriving Science team with an excellent track record for classroom management and improved results. We are a close-knit group of experienced teachers (all with at least five years teaching experience) who support each other like family but aren’t afraid to challenge one another when it counts. We push each other to be better every day, constantly refining our teaching, sharing ideas, and striving to deliver the best possible experience for our students.

Our Results - Our students achieve outstanding results, with 100% securing grades 5+ in biology and chemistry (triple) and 97% in triple physics. In combined science, we consistently meet national performance standards for grades 9-5 and 9-4 and we’re pushing to improve even further. Over the last three years, we've increased the number of students taking higher-tier exams, opening doors to greater opportunities. But the real reward? Making a tangible difference in the lives of disadvantaged students. It’s challenging, no doubt—but seeing that impact makes the hard work worth it.

Opportunities for Growth - Progression is the norm in our science team, not the exception. Nearly every member of our faculty holds an additional responsibility, and there are plenty of opportunities for promotion and professional development, both within the team and across the wider school.
