The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Colne Community School for a Teacher of Science to join our Science Faculty.
Our school is a community in which we believe everyone, students and staff alike, should have the opportunity to be nourished and grow. Therefore, we are seeking to recruit a proactive and forward thinking member of staff to enrich the skills and experience already present in our Science Faculty. We aim to foster an inclusive culture where everyone is able to learn from each other. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, confident and diligent.
Colne Community School is a member of the Sigma Trust. The Sigma Trust’s mission is to be ‘Greater Than The Sum Of Its Parts’ and this is certainly a message that the Colne invests in too. We work closely with other schools within the Trust to improve standards and ensure that we are creating the best environment for our students to learn and our staff to develop.
Our school community is expanding which makes this a particularly unique and exciting time to join our team. We have a brand new teaching block consisting of 8 new classrooms and 4 specialist Design and Technology rooms fully equipped. A further large scale internal refurbishment took place over the 2022/23 academic year which has improved the school environment for all.
Our ARK values of Aspiration, Resilience and Kindness describe the ethos that flows through our school. We expect all members of staff to feed into our values and lead by example to our students. We believe that every member of staff has the potential to impact on student experience and therefore we encourage our staff, both teaching and support, to immerse themselves in our school culture.
Applications from outstanding professionals who believe they can contribute to our school community are greatly welcomed. If you are willing to invest in us, we will invest in you which we believe makes the experience at the Colne especially exciting.
The position will suit an experienced or newly qualified teacher. As part of your role, you may be required to teach PSHE should the need arise.
Please note that we reserve the right to close this advert early should we receive an overwhelming response.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Be fully qualified to teach through the secondary age range;

CCHS is a popular and inclusive comprehensive school that sits in the centre of our community and we are all incredibly proud of our achievements. As a school we have the highest expectations of our students and want every one of them to strive to do their best. We believe that our students have an entitlement to a first class education and provide them with the opportunities they need to excel. In return we expect them to work hard and respect and value others. Our aim is to create the right environment where each student is able to maximise their potential to become a confident, Independent and successful adult. We are a forward-thinking school with an innovative curriculum designed to meet the needs of all students whatever their ability or need. Consequently, we have been recognised by the Department for Education as one of the best schools in the country in terms of the progress made by our students. First established in 1928, Clacton County High School has a very proud history within the town.
It has grown significantly over the years to meet the needs of young people in the local area, however, we are not content with standing still. With an expanding number of students, currently approximately 1700, including a sixth form of around 350 on a separate site, we pride ourselves on creating a personal and supportive environment to promote higher expectations and raise aspirations. We are dedicated to making a difference to the lives of our students and are focussed on raising their expectations and aspirations.
Part of our success is achieved through working in collaboration and partnerships, sharing our expertise and, in return, gaining knowledge back from others. In September 2018, CCHS was rated by Ofsted as a good school with many outstanding features, particularly in regard to leadership and our sixth form provision. We are also proud to be the lead school for the local teacher training scheme.
As well as a firm commitment to all of our students, we are also very committed to supporting colleagues, providing a great CPD and training programme with opportunities for career progression and enhancement.
