JOB OVERVIEW
This role is an exciting opportunity for a skilled scientist with a passion for their subject who is able to inspire our students and reinforce their love for science and learning.
Our expanding and highly successful team of mutually supportive colleagues have a shared purpose of wanting to make a positive difference to the aspirations of our students. Atlantic Academy Portland is an all-through school situated on the beautiful Jurassic coast. The successful candidate who fills this Science Teacher vacancy will enjoy breathtaking sea views from their classroom window. Our students have a genuine love for science and this is reflected in the excellent results for the department.
This role will suit a highly-skilled professional who is also team-orientated. Other key attributes include having a can-do approach in order to mitigate barriers to learning and a desire to help students achieve their full potential. In return for your care, dedication and skills, there are plenty of opportunities for promotion and progression. You will be part of a successful, supportive, well-resourced and fully qualified Science team, with a dedicated Senior Science Technician. This will enable you to deliver your science lessons across the academy with confidence. The department is led by a full time, experienced and supportive member of staff.
The department is excited about the new schemes of learning and resources being developed at KS3 with students in Years 7-8 studying interleaved, knowledge-based units which follow the national curriculum. At KS4, our students study AQA’s Combined Science Trilogy Specification.
At Atlantic Academy we guide and nurture our staff and pupils in equal measure. We encourage best practice through CPD through fortnightly sessions designed to boost your teaching career and also provide mentoring. In-house research-lead CPD includes raising the attainment of underachieving males and cognitive science.
