We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join our thriving Science Department, on a fixed term basis. Whether you’re an Early Career Teacher or an experienced Teacher, we welcome individuals who are committed to delivering high-quality, engaging science lessons that foster curiosity and academic success.
Our vision in Science at Laurus Ryecroft is to create an ambitious and challenging curriculum that provides all students with the knowledge, skills and cultural capital they need to succeed in life and a depth of understanding that will enable them to pursue science beyond Key Stages 4 and 5. We offer a broad and deep curriculum that focuses on powerful knowledge and threshold concepts as we believe that mastery of threshold concepts is integral to students accessing powerful knowledge and gaining a deep understanding and appreciation of science. Our curriculum is ambitious and challenging, providing students with strong substantive knowledge whilst also gaining an awareness of the disciplinary knowledge of the subject. Students will develop their literacy and numeracy skills and build their cultural capital.

Laurus Ryecroft is an oversubscribed secondary school for 11 to 18-year-old students in Tameside. The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.
Laurus Ryecroft is a non-selective, non-denominational free school. It opened in September 2018, initially providing 150 Year 7 places in five forms with 30 students in each. A further seven Year 7 forms will be added each academic year until the school is at full capacity. In addition to this the school will have a sixth form of 300 students.
