Teacher of Science job summary

We are looking for someone with excellent subject knowledge, who is able to respond positively and creatively to the expectations of the subject and has the ability to enthuse students. Science is a very high performing department, achieving amongst the best results in the County. This success is a result of a keen focus on progress and developing a love of Science for all students. The successful candidate must have good organization and communication skills and embrace school life. An interest and/or ability to teacher Computing/Information Technology alongside Science would be considered. John Hanson is a successful 11-16 community school, rated as Good by OFSTED. Our students are friendly and confident, and we strive to ensure that they achieve the success they deserve. A school where ‘Pupils work hard and find the work really challenging’. A school where ‘there are strong systems in place that support pupils in reaching the highest grades’ - Ofsted 2018. If you are an NQT, we have a successful NQT induction program providing full support. NQTs will be paid from the 1st July if available for an early start date.

The School
John Hanson is a comprehensive community school for students aged 11 – 16. There are currently 980 students on roll; the teaching establishment is around 50 teachers, 55 support staff and a strong sense of community. The Leadership team are totally committed to the principles of comprehensive education and providing the very best learning experience we can for each individual. It is the school’s role to ensure that all students and staff are supported to reach their full potential.

The school can trace its origins back to 1569 with the foundation of Andover Grammar School. In the 1970s the grammar school became a comprehensive school and was renamed John Hanson School after an original benefactor of the Grammar School. In 2002 the school relocated to a greenfield site towards the outskirts of Andover, very close to the A303.
