What skills and experience we're looking for
Lincoln UTC does not often have any staff vacancies… teaching or non-teaching, especially from within one of our specialisms. We are in the unusual position however, to be advertising for a teacher of science to join our team, working with our KS4 and KS5 students from September 2025. The reason for this vacancy is due to one of our science teachers moving into the engineering department… we like to keep our staff!
We would welcome applications from experienced members of staff, as well as newly, or recently qualified teachers.
The science department at Lincoln UTC is exceptionally strong (as you might expect in a specialist STEM college), friendly and well resourced. All our key stage 4 students take three separate science GCSEs. A high proportion of our students stay on to take A Levels in science, partially driven by the fact that we have specialist subject teachers across the curriculum.
If you would like to find out more about the college or about this position, please contact the principal, Stuart Hamer, for an informal chat on 01522 775990. We would welcome (indeed encourage) visits to the college so that you can see for yourself what we have to offer. Equally, we understand that this is not always possible, and we will not view applications from candidates who have not visited less favourably. To arrange a visit please contact Holly Hardiman-Crust on 01522 775990 or email HR@lincolnutc.co.uk
Closing Date: Noon – Wednesday 12th March 2025
What the school offers its staff
Lincoln UTC is a unique learning environment. We are a 14 to 18 specialist college for science, technology, engineering, and maths – meaning we accept entries into year 10 and 12. Most visitors to the college assume (wrongly) that we are either a selective or a fee-paying private school. This misunderstanding initially stems from the stunning buildings we are fortunate enough to work in. Our Victorian listed building at the front is reminiscent of Hogwarts. To the rear of the site, our state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops are housed in an equally impressive, but contrasting, £9 million new build.
We have understandably, over the past few years, grown in popularity in the locality and are already operating a substantial waiting list of motivated students for Sept 2025.
In our recent Ofsted inspection, November 2024, we were praised for our ‘highly positive relationships between staff and pupils.’ They went on to say that ‘pupils appreciate how staff go above and beyond for them. This motivates them to attend school and do well. Pupils’ attendance is excellent.’ It was noted that ‘pupils are polite and respectful. They demonstrate maturity in how they conduct themselves in lessons and around the school. They learn in a business-like environment.’
All our visitors tell us that the atmosphere within the college is unique within education. Students and staff are motivated and work alongside one another to learn. Our students don’t wear uniform. They all wear business dress. They look like adults, and they behave like adults. This is an unusually calm, purposeful, and respectful learning community.
Commitment to safeguarding
Lincoln UTC is committed to safeguarding and to safer recruitment practices. You will be required to provide a minimum of 2 recent and relevant references. The role is also subject to an Enhanced DBS check, overseas police clearances where applicable and the UTC will carry out checks on eligibility to work in the UK and qualification checks where appropriate.

Most visitors to the college assume (wrongly) that we are either a selective or a fee-paying private school. This misunderstanding initially stems from the stunning buildings we are fortunate enough to work in. Our Victorian, listed building at the front is reminiscent of Hogwarts. To the rear of the site, our state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops are housed in an equally impressive, but totally contrasting, £9 million new build. The atmosphere within the college is just as impressive as the physical learning environment. Our students don’t wear uniform. They all (right down to Year 10) wear business dress. They look like adults and they behave like adults. This is an unusually calm, purposeful, and respectful learning community.
Lincoln UTC is much smaller than most schools with 400 students, 26 teaching staff and a senior leadership team of just 3 people. The college is always over-subscribed but has no desire to grow beyond its current numbers. As a specialist college we offer fewer subjects than most schools (excelling in the ones that we do) but we do offer students an exceptionally wide range of other (work-related) experiences and opportunities.
When Ofsted inspected the UTC in June 2019 (two good and three outstanding judgements), they commented on the ‘strong and supportive culture and the exceptionally high staff morale’. Pupil behaviour and conduct were described as ‘impeccable’. They went on to say that, ‘the behaviour of pupils is outstanding. Pupils have exceptionally positive attitudes towards their learning.’
