Teacher of Science (maternity cover) job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a science teacher to join our experienced science department to cover maternity leave from January 2025.

The Role

While Biology is the preferred specialist subject , we will consider applications for Physics and Chemistry specialists.

This role is maternity cover from January 2025 (exact date tbc) until December 2026 or earlier (with one months' notice).

We are not able to offer sponsorship to non-settled individuals for a Skilled Worker Visa.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach science at all key stages. The timetable will reflect expertise of the successful applicant
  • Have a proven track record of raising achievement
  • Be a successful teacher of science with an awareness of curriculum development
  • Have a commitment to improving the life chances of all our students; being willing to go the extra distance to do so

Carshalton High School for Girls, a member of the Girl’s Learning Trust, is a high achieving school in the suburbs of south London. Confirmed as “Good” by Ofsted in January 2023, we achieved our best exam results to date in Summer 2025.

Carshalton High School for Girls is a highly successful comprehensive school for girls aged between 11 and 18. The school has expanded in recent years, is popular in the local community, and has a growing Sixth Form.
