All core subject areas of the school are in continual expansion and we have recently appointed additional Maths, English, RE and Science teachers to support our growth in pupil numbers and our new teaching block providing an additional 20 classrooms.

St. Gregory’s Catholic High School is one of the highest performing schools in Warrington and the Liverpool Archdiocese for pupil progress measures. The school is well oversubscribed with a waiting list for pupil admissions.
In our January 2020 Ofsted report, Ofsted graded the school as ‘Good’ in every area under the new framework and the school has been graded as ‘Outstanding’ in the Section 48 Inspection of Catholic Life provision.
The opening paragraph from the Ofsted report reads: “Pupils at St Gregory’s are confident and welcoming to visitors, they like each other”. There is a strong sense of community across the school which reflects the school vision. One pupil said “we are cared about as individuals, but because everyone cares, that makes us all one”
This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding and effective practitioner who has the desire to continue to raise standards across a successful Science department. The successful candidate will be passionate about science and will be personally driven to ensure that every child achieves and makes good progress.
The successful candidate would become part of a dynamic team of subject specialists who strive to provide the best learning experience for pupils through high expectations, inspirational teaching and personalised support. Achievement in the department is excellent and GCSE results are above national in all areas.
In Years 7 and 8, pupils follow a science curriculum that focuses on skills and content that will prepare them well for the demands of GCSE, this is based on the AQA Activate scheme of work personalised for our pupils. Year 9 pupils begin to follow the GCSE curriculum and Years 10 and 11 pupils study the ‘AQA Combined Science Trilogy’ course or opt for the three separate science subjects which is a popular choice. All Year 10 and 11 pupils are taught by 3 subject specialists. In Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils receive 6 hours of Science per fortnight, Combined Science pupils in Year 10 and 11 receive 9 hours teaching per fortnight and Triple Science pupils receive 15 hours per fortnight.
The department consists of 8 full-time teachers, 1 part-time teacher and 1 technician. Science teaching takes place in eight large laboratories which are well resourced by a central prep room and two of them are housed in our new STEM building which both have smaller prep areas attached.
