What skills and experience we're looking for
Downend School is looking for a passionate teacher to join the Social Science team from December or January 2024. This position is a maternity cover in the first instance, with the potential for a permanent post the following academic year. You will teach a range of Social Science subjects, which could include Sociology, Criminology and Health and Social Care. We would welcome and encourage those who are ECTs or early in their career to contact us, as well as those with more experience. This is an excellent opportunity to join a committed team.
About the role
You will be joining a thriving department that aims to provide students with a varied and stimulating curriculum, encouraging students to be inquisitive and independent thinkers. Our aim is not only to help students achieve great outcomes but to spark their interest and engagement so that they have the qualifications and desire to pursue further study at degree level. For those students who pursue other passions in life we aim to equip them with the powerful knowledge to understand and question references to Social Science that occur in their daily lives.
About you
The ability to teach a range of Social Science subjects to A Level is essential. You will have excellent communication skills and be proficient using presentation software to help deliver lessons. You will ensure equality of opportunity, irrespective of starting points, to enable all learners to make good progress. You will also be personable and approachable and be able to quickly build effective relationships with students, and colleagues in the School and across the Trust. Importantly, you will be a positive role model for all students.
