What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Sociology, the ability to teach an additional subject would be beneficial.
The Social Science department at QKA works to ensure all of our students to achieve their best and reach their full potential. We want every student to love our subjects as much as we do, to study social science courses at university and for learners to use their experience with us to shape their future.
Our social science department offers students a range of courses which helps them to achieve their potential. Students can study GCSE Sociology (AQA) in year 10.We have two groups in year 10 and year 11, many students then go onto study our subjects at post-16. All of our post-16 courses are very popular. Students can study AS and A-Level Sociology (OCR) and Psychology (AQA). We have recently offered BTEC, Applied Psychology (BTEC) as well so that students can study Psychology with a coursework and vocational element. Our Applied Criminology (WJEC) course is also in high demand and successful.
The department consists of four experienced members of staff. Two are mainly Sociology specialists and two are Psychology specialists. We share the teaching of criminology amongst us.Due to the growing demand for Sociology GCSE, A-Level and Criminology we need another member of staff to help with the delivery of these subjects.
The department is very well resourced with books and schemes of work.We work in a very supportive and cohesive environment where teachers are given the autonomy and challenge to thrive. Our results are reflective of this working environment, both our post-16 and GCSE results show that our students make excellent progress against national averages.
We are excited about this opportunity to expand our department and are looking forward to welcoming an enthusiastic teacher into our team.
