What skills and experience we're looking for

Dyke House Academy is seeking a passionate Teacher of D&T and Engineering who can bridge creative design with practical engineering principles. In this role, you will be a vital role model, inspiring students to think like inventors, manufacturers, and engineers.

You will manage a dynamic, hands-on workshop environment, delivering a curriculum that demands both technical precision and academic literacy. NET supports continuous career progression (MPS1 to UPS3), expecting teachers to deepen their subject scholarship and technical expertise over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspire Engineering Minds:Establish a safe, stimulating workshop environment rooted in mutual respect. Set ambitious goals that challenge pupils to solve real-world design and engineering problems.
  • Deliver Technical Rigor:Take accountability for students' progress and outcomes. Cultivate a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, material properties, and engineering mechanics while addressing student misconceptions.
  • Workshop Safety & Management:Maintain high expectations of behaviour and strict workshop routines. Ensure machinery, tools, and materials are used safely and effectively to keep students motivated and secure.
  • Structured & Creative Lessons:Plan well-structured lessons that optimize workshop time, promote intellectual curiosity, and use targeted out-of-class tasks to extend learning.
  • Adaptive Teaching:Adapt your approach to support all learners. Understand how physical, social, and intellectual development impacts a student's ability to grasp technical concepts, making modifications for SEND, high-ability, or EAL pupils.
  • Data-Driven Assessment:Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and target gaps. Provide regular, accurate technical feedback and marking to guide student improvement.
  • Professional Collaboration:Develop strong working relationships with colleagues, deploy workshop technicians/support staff effectively, and communicate student achievements to parents

Requirements & Conduct

  • Qualifications:Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent with a specialization in D&T or Engineering.
  • Professional Image:Consistently meet national Teaching Standards, maintaining excellent attendance, punctuality, and professional boundaries.
  • Core Values:Uphold public trust, protect student well-being, and promote fundamental British values.
  • Compliance:Strictly adhere to Academy policies, GDPR, and data protection regulations.
