What skills and experience we're looking for
Do you enjoy the challenge of teaching children and young people who have special educational needs? Do you have passion, enthusiasm and expertise to teach children and young people to reach their potential?
Our Opportunity
Our curriculum for students in the College is an inspiring and enriching model designed to develop independent enquirers, creative thinkers, team workers, self-managers, effective participators and reflective learners.
Many of our pupils have an individualised learning journey which will not always lead to academic achievement that can be measured in the manner of mainstream schools.
Our Key Stage 4 curriculum covers maths, English, science, and computing at its core; as well as humanities, performing arts, food tech, and personal development education.
Our Key Stage 5 curriculum covers useful everyday knowledge and life skills, such as E-safety, sending emails, employability, and vocational courses.
This is an ideal opportunity for candidates looking to ‘test the waters’ of working in a special school.
You will be a key figure in supporting and preparing students for life beyond Welburn Hall.
You will have the enthusiasm and resilience to work with children and young people who have a wide variety of needs including:
- Autistic spectrum disorder
- Moderate and severe learning difficulties
- Speech, language and communication
Skills & Qualifications
- The ability to cater for the different learning styles of pupils with a range of learning difficulties
- You will be a very good classroom practitioner who consistently makes learning memorable, impacting on all students to make good progress
- Qualified Teacher Status
The ability to teach more than one subject and demonstrate a proven successful track record in a comparable SEND setting, will be advantageous.
Primary or Secondary trained candidates may apply; this includes those teachers that are specialists in their subject matter.
We welcome applications from candidates with either primary or secondary school teaching qualifications / experience.
This role is open to both ECT's or experienced teachers
What the school offers its staff
- A happy and friendly special school, fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment in which to inspire and motivate our children.
- Significant levels of support from a staff team who is experienced, committed and passionate about our school.
- An opportunity to see the potential that exists here, with clear support given and an opportunity to make a difference that is life changing and rewarding.
- Children and young people who will make you proud to be their teacher.
