Teaching Assistant 2 (Small Specialist SEND Class) job summary

The position advertised is to work in one of our small specialist classes within our mainstream school. Acorn class has up to 10 pupils who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) in place. All of the children have complex learning difficulties and speech and language difficulties. Each pupil is navigating their own communication journey with some of our pupils being able to communicate their needs and wants using simple vocabulary and short sentences, some are pre-verbal and use key words and symbols to communicate. We also have pupils who communicate using AAC devices. Most of the pupils also require support in managing their personal and intimate care needs.

The pupils in the SSC will be accessing an informal pathway curriculum from September 2025 using the Equals curriculum that is taught within specialist settings. The focus of their learning will be on developing them as pupils holistically focusing on developing their communication, independence, physical well-being, play and leisure and outdoor school learning.

All members of the school staff are expected to be a professional and active member of the school community working as part of the team to raise standards, improve outcomes and opportunities for all students and promote a lifelong love of learning
