Teaching Assistant job summary

To work with students individually or in small groups, alongside teachers in classrooms to help meet specific learning needs.

To help students learn how to learn, to become effective and independent learners so that they can achieve their full potential.

Facilitate and evaluate a range of learning experiences that are carefully matched to students’ prior learning and current needs.

Contribute to the development and implementation of students’ individual education plans.

Use assessment data to provide feedback, to set learning objectives and to plan further interventions in conjunction with teaching staff.

Support teaching staff in recording and reporting attendance, progress and attainment to colleagues, parents/carers, and others as required.

Help to develop and maintain a stimulating, purposeful and orderly learning environment within areas in which you work.

Create regular opportunities for students to develop their learning skills and their confidence, particularly with regards to the Academy specialisms

Help to develop students’ English and Literacy skills in the course of their learning.

Use positive behaviour management techniques to maximise learning to promote productive and respectful relationships.

This is a permanent role working 32.5 hours a week 39 weeks a year - Term Time Only

Who we are looking for

Educated to GCSE level/ NVQ-level 2 or equivalent, including English and Mathematics

An understanding of how best to support learning and assessment for learning in a range of subject areas.

An understanding of how to manage behaviour positively to maximise learning and promote productive and respectful relationships.

Good people skills with an ability to command the respect of students and collaborate effectively with staff.

Good communication skills and good command of spoken and written English

An enthusiasm for learning and the ability to enthuse and motivate students.

An understanding of how to use ICT to support learning and record keeping.

Experience of working with individuals or groups of students and maintaining an orderly learning environment

Experience of supporting learning and improving educational outcomes in culturally and ethnically diverse contexts

Thomas Middlecott Academy is situated in Kirton, within the Borough of Boston, Lincolnshire.
Our academy is named after Sir Thomas Middlecott, who founded the first Free Grammar School in Kirton in 1624, and there has been a school serving our local community ever since.
The academy fosters sport as a huge focus but will also benefit from other opportunities as part of the David Ross Education Trust. This includes new IT systems, unrivaled enrichment opportunities and increased academic expectations.
