Teaching Assistant job summary
Teaching Assistant
Previous experience is desirable although not essential but the right candidate will need to have patience, understanding and the flexibility to undertake a variety of tasks working with students’ with additional needs. Full and Part time considered.
Typical hours 8.35am - 3.05pm daily/term time only
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-class support to students with additional needs
- Develop and deliver one-to-one or small group interventions to students with SEN (including Phonics, English and Maths)
- Develop and deliver interventions to support social skills, SEMH and resilience
- Work collaboratively with the SENDCO, teachers, and other support staff to identify and support students with additional needs
- Build positive relationships with students to help them feel valued and understood
- Record and monitor the progress of students
- Liaise with external professionals when required to ensure students' holistic development
Key Requirements:
- Experience working in an educational setting is desirable
- An understanding of SEN is essential
- ELSA trained or a willingness to undertake ELSA training
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills
- A GCSE pass (or equivalent) in Maths and English is essential. A pass in Science is desirable.
- A patient, compassionate, empathetic, and understanding approach to working with students with additional needs
- Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the wider school community
- The ability to take direction but also be able to use initiative when required
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
