We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our committed team at Wyvern Academy. This is an exciting opportunity to support students across the school, including those with additional needs, and to work alongside skilled teaching and support staff who are deeply committed to every child’s success.

Why Join Wyvern Academy?

Wyvern Academy is a thriving secondary school in Darlington, proud to be part of the Consilium Academies Trust, where Excellence in all that we do is our guiding principle.

Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted (June 2023), inspectors praised our school as “a place where pupils are happy, safe and learn well.” We foster a culture of inclusivity, aspiration, and respect, where staff and students alike feel valued, supported, and inspired.

Our strong ethos is built around nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. We are relentless in our pursuit of high standards, and believe in the power of education to transform lives.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in:

  • Supporting students in accessing the curriculum and engaging in learning activities.

  • Assisting teachers in creating purposeful, supportive classroom environments.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, self-esteem, and inclusion across the school.

You will work under the guidance of the Assistant Principal (SENDCo) and classroom teachers to provide targeted support that ensures all pupils can thrive—academically and personally.

We Are Looking For

  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills (equivalent to NVQ Level 2).
  • Experience working with secondary-aged children, especially those with additional needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and student wellbeing.
  • A team player with a positive, proactive, and flexible approach.

Knowledge of autism and experience supporting students with SEND are highly desirable.

What We Offer

As part of Consilium Academies, you will benefit from:

  • A collaborative and supportive network of schools and colleagues.
  • Access to our Centre for Professional Learning with excellent CPD opportunities.
  • 34 days annual leave (including bank holidays, pro-rata for term time).
