What is the job role?

As a Teaching Assistant at Tiverton School, you will play a vital role in supporting the education and care of pupils with a range of needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities
  • Assisting with the assessment and monitoring of pupil progress
  • Working with individuals or small groups, including during trips and special activities
  • Implementing specialist programmes alongside professionals such as therapists
  • Providing personal care where required, including feeding and intimate care
  • Supporting behaviour management and contributing to positive learning environments
  • Preparing classroom resources and maintaining accurate records
  • Promoting effective communication between school and home

This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same, and where your contribution will have a direct impact on pupils’ development and wellbeing.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate and motivated individual who:

  • Has experience working with children (paid or voluntary)
  • Holds (or is working towards) an NVQ Level 2/3 qualification or equivalent
  • Understands child development, safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • Has strong literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
  • Can communicate effectively with pupils, staff and families
  • Is able to support pupils with a range of needs, including personal care
  • Works well as part of a team and builds positive professional relationships
  • Is organised, adaptable and committed to ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting young people

Working hours are: 

Monday - 8.30am - 4.30pm

Tuesday - Thursday - 8.30am - 4.15pm 

Friday - 8.30am - 3.30pm 

15 minute unpaid break in the morning and 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS, all relevant safeguarding and pre-employment clearances, and the receipt of two satisfactory references.

Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) for an additional pre employment check with effect 1 Sept 22, please note, an online search may form part of this recruitment process.

Tiverton School is a Primary aged broad spectrum special school.
