Teaching Assistant job summary

Ready to make a real difference every single day?

We're looking for an enthusiastic, driven Teaching Assistant to join our team — someone who lights up around children, thrives in a busy classroom, and genuinely believes every child deserves the chance to shine.

The Role

This isn't a passive role. You'll be right at the heart of the action — mentoring pupils, sparking curiosity, and helping children overcome barriers to learning. From preparing vibrant classroom environments and creating eye-catching displays, to delivering focused 1:1 support and leading small group sessions, no two days will look the same.

You'll champion positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, spot early signs that a child needs extra support, and work hand-in-hand with passionate teachers who share your drive. Storytelling, reading, hands-on activities — you'll bring learning to life in ways that stick.

About You

You're energetic, organised, and warm — the kind of person pupils remember. You bring:

  • Brilliant communication skills and a natural ability to connect with children, families, and colleagues
  • Strong literacy and numeracy to support learning across the curriculum
  • A creative, inclusive approach that meets every child where they are
  • Professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to confidentiality

Experience with SEMH needs is a bonus — but if you're hungry to grow and determined to make an impact, we want to hear from you.

Why Join Us?

The Primary First Trust is 100% focused on primary education, and it shows. We offer:

  • Real career development, including access to professional qualifications
  • A comprehensive employee assistance programme (GP, physiotherapy, counselling and more)
  • Local government pension scheme with enhanced maternity and sickness benefits
  • An ambitious, supportive leadership team — and children who genuinely love learning
