Teaching Assistant job summary

Alderman Jacobs is a vibrant and popular three form entry school with its own pre-school located in the market town of Whittlesey, just 6 miles from Peterborough. The school was rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted (March 2023) with inspectors reporting that ‘Alderman Jacobs is a welcoming and happy place where pupils enjoy their learning. All aspects of school life reflect the school’s values of energy for life, learning and the environment’. The school joined the Soke Education Trust in September 2023 and works collaboratively with Gunthorpe, John Clare, Northborough, Werrington and Wittering Primary Schools supported by an experienced and collaborative central team.

We are currently looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to support children in their learning (including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), and to work 1:1, with small groups and whole classes as required.

Hours of work: 26.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.10pm, term time 38 weeks per year (fixed term until 31/8/2025)

This exciting role will include:

  • Working under the direction of the teacher carrying out pre-determined tasks to support pupil learning
  • Establishing and maintaining supportive relationships with individual pupils or small groups to ensure they understand and can achieve their tasks
  • Providing learning support as required for children with special needs, or where English is not their first language
  • Assisting with the care and support for pupils, including attending to their emotional and/or physical care need
  • Respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns which relate to the well-being of a child, following school policies at all times

The ideal candidate:

  • Level 2 qualification in Children and Young Peoples Workforce or equivalent
  • Good educational background including 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade C or above including English & Maths
  • Calm and caring nature with previous experience of working with children within a similar role
  • Knowledge of how to support children’s learning
  • ICT skills (including Microsoft packages)
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills with staff, children and parents
