What skills and experience we're looking for

From September 2026, we are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and creative Teaching Assistant to join our fantastic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive village school community and make a real difference to pupils’ learning and wellbeing.

Following the successful opening of our Nursery in September 2024, we have been delighted with the strong interest in our early years provision and the growth of our school within EYFS. As a result, we are looking to expand our team by appointing a suitably qualified Teaching Assistant to support within this important area of the school. We are seeking a Teaching Assistant with a full and relevant Level 3 qualification, as part of the role will involve supporting children within our EYFS provision. Applications are also welcomed from candidates who hold HLTA status, with salary reflecting qualifications and experience.

This role is a permanent role for three days per week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with the possibility of additional hours and extending this contract to more days per week depending on our Nursery intake next year.

The successful candidate will support pupils across two classrooms from EYFS to Year 3, working closely with class teachers to provide high quality support for learning. A significant aspect of the role will involve supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including within the classroom, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis. Experience of working with pupils with additional learning needs and demonstrating positive impact within a classroom is essential.

Experienced teaching assistants are warmly encouraged to apply, and we are open to considering part time or job share arrangements for the right candidate.

Candidates should be in sympathy with the Christian ethos of the school.

Welcome to Barningham Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School.

We are a rural, village primary school set in the beautiful countryside of Suffolk. We are so proud of our school – the children, staff, governors and our local community because we pride ourselves in this school being the heart and soul of Barningham. Our mission is to grow in faith, grow in our learning and grow our future world because we believe the children that we serve will be the children of tomorrow; creating a world that we are all proud to be in.

As a church school we are fundamentally rooted in the Christian values and use these to inspire life long learners who are guided by the example of Jesus. We have strong links with the local church and this forms the basis of our collective worship. Through the Parable of the Sower, we aim to teach children that if they have ‘good soil’, where they hear God’s message, they will be able to grow and flourish into ambitious citizens of our world.

We invite you to come and work in our school and discover why we are so proud of our school and how it is supporting children to be ambitious, to be kind and to give to others within the community and the wider world.
