Teaching Assistant job summary

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: 32.5 hours per week – 39 weeks per year

Salary: Scale 4 NJC09 - NJC10

The successful candidate will be expected to develop strong and positive relationships with staff and pupils. They will support pupils to enhance learning and encourage them to become independent learners as well as providing educational, welfare and therapeutic support for pupils with a range of learning needs. We are looking for Teaching Assistants with good communication skills, ability to work on their own initiative and previous experience of working with pupils with learning needs.

Capella House is a forward-thinking, unique and innovative special school with a very exciting future ahead. The school provides for pupils aged 4 to 16 with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) as their primary need. Other additional needs which may include ASD, ADHD, Sensory issues or Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Classes have up to 7 pupils and will are supported by HLTAs, TAs and Therapists.

The school opened its Secondary Department in September 2019 in purpose built accommodation co-located with Clarendon School and Richmond upon Thames School. Our primary centre opened in September 2021 co-located with St Mary's primary school in Twickenham. The Auriga Academy Trust was created in 2016 by our partner special schools Clarendon and Strathmore, in order to extend local SEND provision.

Capella House School is part of The Auriga Academy Trust is a small local specialist academy chain. ​The Trust and its three constituent special schools work in a close and supportive partnership, with each school maintaining its unique identity and ethos. All Trust schools are in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, ​South West London which has excellent public transport links.
