Teaching Assistant job summary

To ensure we can continue to meet the needs of our pupils with special education needs, we are seeking a new Teaching Assistant to join our SEN team from 1 September 2025, subject to the necessary employment checks. This vacancy represents the ideal opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who wishes to gain experience in another school, or make the transition to working in a secondary school rather than primary school. Similarly, we would welcome applications from anyone new to the role of Teaching Assistant who is looking to use their skills to support pupils’ learning in the classroom.

The successful applicant will work alongside pupils with SEN, many of whom have Education Health Care Plans, in the classroom. The role may also include lunchtime supervision of SEN pupils. The post is term time plus Inset Days. The successful candidate will work 25 hours per week within the hours of 8.50am to 3.25pm Monday to Friday when our Teaching Assistants are required to be in school, with an unpaid morning break and lunch break. As a temporary variation to the contract, our Teaching Assistants are currently being paid for 10 minutes ‘movement time’ between lessons, meaning paid hours of 25 hours 50 minutes per week. Additionally, as a further temporary variation, many of our Teaching Assistants are working an additional 25 minutes each morning, adding a further 2 hours and 5 minutes a week. This latter opportunity will be discussed with applicants at interview. Exact scheduling of the hours are subject to the needs of our pupils. The types of difficulty which pupils being supported may present include autistic spectrum disorders, physical disability, multi sensory impairment, social interaction, communication or emotional difficulties and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Teaching Assistants contribute to lessons in a variety of ways including: differentiating material, helping pupils to remain focused, scribing, and reading to individuals or small groups of pupils.

The school's values of Trust, Kindness and Determination underpin all we do. Our pupils enjoy their learning in a disruption free environment, and staff are proud to work here. Following our Ofsted inspection in January 2023, Cirencester Deer Park School continues to be a good school. Inspectors noted that:

  • “Pupils welcome leaders’ high expectations of their behaviour and conduct… Pupils enjoy their learning and feel well prepared for the future.”
  • “Pupils behave well in lessons and benefit from learning without low-level disruption from others.”
  • “Staff are proud to work at the school. They feel well supported by leaders in respect of workload, well-being and managing pupils’ behaviour.”

As a high performing comprehensive school in the South Cotswolds, Cirencester Deer Park is committed to providing outstanding education and developing our staff. Further information about our school can be found on our website and prospective candidates would be welcome to contact Allison Boucher, Co-Heads' PA by email with any questions or to arrange an informal visit to the school. A letter to applicants, further information about the role of Teaching Assistant, a privacy notice for applicants and an application form are all available via the website. Completed application forms should reach the school no later than 9am on Monday 16 June 2025. Interviews are set to take place on the morning of Thursday 19 June 2025. However, we encourage applicants to apply promptly as we reserve the right to call candidates for interview ahead of this date. We are committed to the safeguarding of our pupils and employment is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and receipt of satisfactory references.
