Your Role in Building Brighter Futures
As a Teaching Assistant at Sir Bernard Lovell Academy, you will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of Futura’s mission statement of “Building the brightest future for all, enabling every individual to flourish”. SBL Academy is a thriving and oversubscribed 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the communities between Bristol and Bath. Our students benefit from high-quality classroom experiences and a broad and varied enrichment programme. Exceptional pastoral and student support is essential to our provision and our SEND Team sits centrally within our approach to student support.
The SEND Team is led by an experienced SENDCO and Deputy SENDCO and currently consists of three HLTA’s and 12 Teaching Assistants. We are a growing team, designed to support a level of need which is reflective of the local and national SEND picture.
As a Teaching Assistant you will be responsible for:
● Providing in-class support or work with small groups of students with Special Education Needs. Work will be provided by the teacher as appropriate.
● Providing Exam Access support including reading and scribing for students.
● Supporting Key Students when needed, this will include monitoring progress and sharing information with teachers and other support staff.
● Liaising with parents as required, this includes 3 Parents Evenings a year.
● To plan and liaise with teachers in order to maximise the effectiveness of support.

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting young people to flourish and reach their potential. As TA you will possess the following:
● Qualifications: Good standard of education, 3 GCSE’s Grade C/4 and above. A pass in English is essential.
● Experience: Proven experience of working with young people with Speacial Educational Needs.
● Skills: excellent communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills and the ability to engage students with varying types of need.
● Demonstrates a passion for creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all members of our school community.
● Aligns with our trust-wide values by bringing a positive, collaborative approach to their work and a willingness to continuously develop professionally.
