Teaching Assistant job summary

Overall Purpose of the Post:

  • To work in conjunction with the class teacher to support children’s learning and to share in the care and well-being of the children throughout the school.

  • To take intervention groups/work with individuals as directed by the teacher.

  • To supervise and support children over lunchtime.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Support the delivery of high-quality education under the direction of the class teacher/SENCO.
      Act as a positive role model, demonstrating flexibility, good timekeeping, and confidentiality.

    • Work with individuals or small groups, supporting curriculum activities, reading, and play.

    • Prepare, set up, and assist with group activities, displays, and learning resources.

    • Provide pastoral care, including supporting physical, medical, and emotional needs.

    • Promote inclusion of all children, including those with SEND or EAL.

    • Support behaviour, welfare, and safety in line with school policies.

    • Liaise with teachers, parents, and outside agencies as directed.

    • Assist with arrival, departure, lunchtimes, and educational visits.

    • Undertake training and development as required.
