Teaching Assistant for SEN (1:1) job summary

The Meads Primary School are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join their school as 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant. This post are available for an immediate start and are on a Fixed Term basis initially until 31/08/2025 and with a view of extending this after this date.

As a SEN TA you will be required to assist children, in either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, who have additional learning needs and may have a diagnosis of Autism and/or communication issues. You will be required to support them in accessing the curriculum during their lessons and with other activities they may struggle with. Due to their needs, they may show challenging behaviour and therefore some of their learning time may be in a designated space outside of the classroom. The ideal 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for this role will have previous experience of working in a school setting.

You will be joining a friendly team and additional training will be offered as necessary.

Ideally, we are looking for practitioners who are able to contribute to the planning, differentiation and assessment of the curriculum for individual pupils in partnership with the class teacher.

The post is for 30 hours per week, term-time plus 5 days for INSET. A typical working day could be as below:

Monday to Friday: 8.45am – 3.30pm (45-minute breaks)

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of supporting pupils with a range of SEN including those with autism
  • Build positive relationships with children
  • Work calmly and patiently helping children to engage positively with their learning
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of inclusion
  • Work in collaboration with teachers, contributing to the planning and assessment of pupils with SEND
