Join Athena - Inspiring World-Class Education together!

At Athena, we are a passionate and forward-looking educational organisation committed to providing world-class education and helping individuals lead great lives. Our core values of "Dream Big, Take Responsibility, and Be Kind" guide our mission to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where everyone can excel and grow.

Launceston Primary School is expanding! Two new vacancies available:

As a growing school building from the ground up, we are thrilled to be expanding our support team. We currently have two new exciting vacancies available for dedicated individuals who want to make a lasting impact on our children's lives:
Vacancy 1: Part-Time TA / HLTA (2 Days: Tuesday & Wednesday)
Vacancy 2: Full-Time Teaching Assistant

If you are looking for a role where you will feel trusted, thoroughly supported, and genuinely valued, we would love to hear from you. We warmly welcome and encourage school visits from prospective candidates.
Please get in touch with our school office secretary@launcestonprimary.uk or 01566701685 for further details or to arrange a visit.

Who would suit these roles?
We believe that talent, commitment, and alignment with our values matter far more than a specific background. Because of the unique structure and supportive nature of our team, both of these roles could suit a wide variety of pathways:
- A qualified teacher wishing to step back from full teaching or planning commitments while remaining impactful in the classroom.
- An ECT (Early Career Teacher) who hasn't yet secured a permanent role and wants to gain excellent, hands-on classroom experience.
- A career changer with strong qualifications who may not have a background in education yet, but possesses a passion for working with children and a drive to learn quickly.
- A current TA or HLTA looking for a positive change of environment, a fresh school culture, or added experience.
- A graduate considering teaching as a future career who wants rich, paid experience in theclassroom before committing to a PGCE.

VACANCY 1

Part-Time TA / HLTA (Tuesday & Wednesday)
Contract Term: Fixed-term for one academic year. Whilst we hope to be able to renew this role for future years, this will depend on the funding position of the school.
The Role: This is a beautifully collaborative, part-time position appointed as a TA or HLTA depending on your qualifications and experience. You will be working directly opposite an existing colleague who covers Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Because you will share groups of children across the week, a strong ability to communicate effectively with your opposite number will be paramount to ensure seamless continuity for the children.
Key Duties & Opportunities: If you join us as a TA, your primary focus will be teaching targeted small groups (full training will be given). If you join us as an HLTA, your role will expand to include elements of whole-class teaching. To support our school community, all of our TAs assist during lunchtime (paid), and there are also opportunities to support our popular breakfast club and after-school provisions on your working days for additional paid hours.
VACANCY 2
Full-Time Teaching Assistant
Contract Term: Fixed-term for one academic year. Whilst we hope to be able to renew this role for future years, this will depend on the funding position of the school.
The Role: This dynamic, full-time position will see you working adaptably between different classes across the school. It offers excellent variety as you support small groups and work closely with individual children. Please note that this is not a designated 1:1 post, though focused 1:1 work with different children will be a regular and rewarding part of your weekly role.
Key Duties & Opportunities: Teaching small groups, providing in-class support, and offering targeted individual guidance. To ensure our children are safe and supported throughout the school day, all of our TAs assist during lunchtime (paid). Additionally, many of our TAs choose to support our popular breakfast club and after-school provisions for additional paid hours.

About Launceston Primary School:

A joyful, inclusive culture: Our school is a truly joyful place to work where everyone is valued, heard, and included. We are incredibly proud of our open, welcoming culture—there are no closed circles here, just a tight-knit team that actively supports one another and loves working together. Staff feel genuinely trusted, highly valued, and part of something deeply positive.
Our values in action: We are a school that truly lives its values every single day. With our children, we focus on three key principles: challenge yourself, don’t give up, and be kind. These are at the absolute heart of everything we do.
For our staff, we go even further, focusing on three additional principles that guide our professional lives:
Commitment: Striving to continually improve through meaningful collaboration. We do this not because we are not good enough, but because we believe we can always get better together.
Connection: Building genuine, warm relationships with children, families, and the wider community, inspired by the belief that strong relationships are the foundation of all learning.
Make a Difference: Focusing on real, tangible impact rather than just ticking boxes. We look out especially for children who sometimes fall behind, firmly believing that SEND, EAL, and disadvantaged children can and should succeed in the exact same way as their peers. We constantly reflect on how best to make that happen.

Launceston Primary is part of the Athena Learning Trust Launceston College Multi Academy Trust (Trust) alongside Atlantic Academy, Bideford College, Altarnun Primary, Egloskerry Primary and Launceston College.

Launceston Primary School opened its doors in September 2021. The two-form entry school started with Reception pupils only, and will gradually fill to Year 6 to reach a maximum capacity of 420 pupils.

Launceston Primary School aims for all of our children to delight in life experiences and achievement, becoming happy, successful and responsible young people.

The success of Launceston Primary School is built on strong relationships between the school and the wider community ensuring that pupils know, understand and respect the diversity within the school, the local area, our country and the world. Our pupils develop a respect for the environment and an understanding and tolerance of others that ensures that they become successful, responsible and happy world citizens.

We consider the “through school” education to be paramount to success. We have close links with local nurseries, to ensure that children have a smooth transition to ‘big school’ and start in Reception ‘school ready’. Through our established relationships with staff at Launceston College, we can ensure that there will no dip in learning from Reception to Year 11, and beyond. The school’s geographical proximity to Launceston College will ensure pupils have access to both specialist teaching and specialist facilities not accessible to most primary age pupils.
