About the Role

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and committed Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role will involve supporting children across the classroom, working closely with the class teacher and wider school staff to deliver high-quality learning experiences and ensure all children are fully supported.

Whether you are supporting the whole class, working with small groups, or delivering 1:1 support for children with additional needs, your role will be crucial in helping every child feel safe, happy, and able to achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

Below are examples of key responsibilities for each grade. Please delete or adapt these as appropriate to fit the needs of your school.

Grade 2:

  • Support pupils during teacher-led activities, encouraging independence and active participation.
  • Prepare and maintain a positive and engaging classroom environment, including assisting with displays and resources.
  • Promote positive behaviour and support children’s social development during learning and break times.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to support their learning, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, support staff, and families to create a nurturing and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality, uphold safeguarding procedures, and model the school’s values in all interactions.

Grade 3:

  • Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND or additional needs, including supporting individual plans.
  • Help deliver structured group activities, adapt resources, and track pupil progress under teacher guidance.
  • Support pupils’ emotional and behavioural development to promote inclusion and confidence.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to support their learning, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, support staff, and families to create a nurturing and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality, uphold safeguarding procedures, and model the school’s values in all interactions.

Grade 4:

  • Provide cover for teaching staff, including leading class teaching (under supervision), PPA cover, short-term cover for the absence of other staff
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities (including whole-class teaching) under an agreed system of supervision.
  • Assess and report on pupil progress across a range of curriculum areas, using various monitoring and evaluation methods.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to support their learning, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, support staff, and families to create a nurturing and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality, uphold safeguarding procedures, and model the school’s values in all interactions.

  • Someone who values inclusion and believes in the potential of every child.
  • A flexible, dependable person who maintains professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Someone who understands the importance of safeguarding and wellbeing in a school setting.

Grade 3:

  • An experienced and confident individual with a strong understanding of working with children who have additional needs.
  • Someone who can adapt learning activities and resources to meet a variety of pupil needs.
  • A reflective practitioner who observes, records, and communicates pupil progress clearly.
  • A calm and nurturing adult who supports emotional development and helps pupils feel safe and included.
  • A reliable team player who can build strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
  • Someone who maintains high professional standards and follows safeguarding and behaviour policies effectively.

Grade 4:

  • A highly skilled and confident practitioner, ideally HLTA-qualified or working towards HLTA status.
  • Someone with experience delivering whole-class teaching under supervision, including for PPA and short-term cover.
  • A professional who can plan, assess, and provide feedback to support pupil progress across the curriculum.
  • A positive role model with the ability to lead, mentor, and support other support staff.
  • A strong communicator who collaborates effectively with teaching teams, parents, and external professionals.
  • A committed, resilient individual who values inclusion, upholds safeguarding duties, and contributes to the wider school life.
