What skills and experience we're looking for
Seven Hills School is a Co-educational Secondary Special School co-located with a good Catholic High School near the centre of the city. We cater for pupils from 11 to 19 years of age. All pupils have learning difficulties, and many have other associated difficulties relating to communication, sensory, physical and/or medical disabilities. In common with many other special schools, pupils admitted have increasingly complex needs.

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and committed individuals who are able to relate well to young people with a range of complex needs including severe learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, communication difficulties and social, emotional and behavioural needs.
The successful candidates must:
- Be able to work collaboratively within a staff team and with visiting therapists.
- Provide high quality support for the learning, personal care, communication and physical needs of students, working across a range of ages and abilities.
- Have a high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to young people and adults
- Develop positive relationships with students, parents and staff
- Be able to adapt to changing situations
- Be flexible in order to respond to the needs of the students
- Have experience of managing students with challenging behaviour, be Team Teach trained and have a willingness to develop this further
The school has a large post 16 provision based at The Bridge, this is a joint provision, providing post 16 education for Talbot and Seven Hills students in preparation for them moving on to further education settings. The Bridge is situated on the Newfield/Talbot site (S8) area) in a separate building to Talbot school. The successful applicants may be required to work in either phase 1, phase 2 or phase 3 and on either of our sites. This will be dependent on the skills and experience of the applicant. It would be helpful to know if you have a preference to which site you would prefer to be located at, please state this on you application form.
Teaching Assistants also contribute towards students’ formal and informal assessment and help build effective relationships between home and school.

The successful applicants will provide high quality support for the learning, personal care, communication and physical needs of students, working across a range of ages and abilities.
You should have experience of managing students with challenging behaviour, be Team Teach trained and have a willingness to develop this further. As a Teaching Assistant you are required to take an interest in each child, encouraging their learning and development and ensuring their safety.
All Teaching Assistants are required to be proficient in Safe Moving and Handling techniques and Team Teach. Training will be provided as necessary. A knowledge of Makaton, basic ICT skills and experience of working with students with disabilities, learning difficulties, communication difficulties and challenging behaviour would be an advantage but professionals with a positive attitude who are committed to their own professional development will also be considered.
