What skills and experience we're looking for
Role Introduction
KS2 (1 day) and Resource Provision SEMH (2 days)
Supporting the teacher with the delivery of lessons and assisting with the running of the classroom, offering support to individuals or small groups. Your role will play a key part in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, preparing materials, supervising students during various activities, and aiding with administrative tasks. The Teaching Assistant role is key to enhancing engagement, behaviour, and student progress.
The role also involves working within a specialist SEMH Resource Provision , supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs to access learning and develop positive relationships. You will work closely with teachers and the wider inclusion team to deliver tailored interventions, promote emotional regulation, and maintain a safe, nurturing environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a calm, relational approach, high expectations for behaviour and learning, and a commitment to inclusive practice, helping pupils to build resilience, self-esteem and readiness for the next stage of their education.

Responsibilities
Supporting Learning & Teaching:
Assist the teacher in preparing and delivering engaging lessons
Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning
Support students with additional needs, including SEN and EAL learners
The postholder works under the direction and supervision of the class teacher and senior staff and does not carry responsibility for curriculum planning or assessment decisions
Deliver targeted and structured interventions (for example phonics, reading, numeracy or social communication programmes) with individuals or small groups, following plans provided by the teacher or SENCo
Monitor pupil engagement and outcomes within interventions and provide feedback to the teacher or SENCo, in line with agreed procedures
Support pupils in a way that promotes independence, confidence and resilience, encouraging them to develop self‑help strategies and reducing support appropriately over time
Foster positive attitudes to learning and help pupils to regulate their own behaviour and engagement
Help to assess and track student progress, providing feedback to the teacher.
Classroom Support & Management:
Encourage positive behaviour and maintain a safe learning environment
Set up and organize classroom resources and learning materials
Provide supervision and assistance during lunch breaks, playtimes, and school trips
Promote inclusion and equal opportunities for all students.
Administrative Duties:
Support teachers with marking and preparing learning materials
Maintain records of student progress and behaviour when required
Assist in the preparation of classroom displays and resources.
Pastoral & Safeguarding Responsibilities:
Support children’s emotional and social development
Follow safeguarding procedures to ensure student well-being
Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professional
Where required, provide support for pupils’ personal care and medical needs where required, in line with individual care plans, training received, and school policies.
Health and Safety:
Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, and help to safeguard pupils’ wellbeing by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our school’s child protection policy

Qualifications and Training
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Evidence of recent relevant CPD (e.g., behaviour management, phonics, SEND training).
- Team Teach, First Aid, or Safeguarding training beyond statutory induction.
Experience
- Experience working with children in a school or educational setting.
- Experience supporting learning with individuals or small groups.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND or EAL needs.
- Experience delivering structured interventions (phonics, reading, numeracy).
- Experience maintaining pupil progress records.
- Experience supporting behaviour plans or individual education plans (IEPs).
- Experience working across different year groups or phases.
Skills and Knowledge
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and adults.
- Understanding of how to adapt support to meet individual needs.
- Knowledge of safeguarding requirements and Keeping Children Safe in Education.
- Good ICT skills, especially using technology to support learning.
- Ability to remain calm in pressured or challenging situations.
- Understanding of roles and responsibilities within the classroom.
- Knowledge of specific learning needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, speech & language).
- Understanding of effective strategies for supporting behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Awareness of the wider school curriculum and assessment processes.
- Ability to contribute to planning, assessment or resource preparation.
