What skills and experience we're looking for
You will join a supportive team committed to working collaboratively. Our priority is to effectively support some of our most vulnerable students, in accessing the curriculum and achieving their full potential. You will mainly support in classes across all subjects, assisting students who need extra help or direction. Over time you will have the opportunity to provide more specialised support, via interventions. You will be committed to improving your skills and abilities and we firmly believe in ‘growing our own’. The role requires a minimum GCSE Grade C / 4 or above in both English and Maths (or the equivalent). In addition, you must have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work flexibly.
- NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification or experience
- A*- C or 9 - 4 grade in G.C.S.E. English and Maths
- Willingness to undertake training in relevant learning strategies e.g. literacy/numeracy and /or training in a particular curriculum.
- Willingness and ability to obtain and/or enhance qualifications and training for development in the post
- Working with, or caring for, secondary school students
- Working with children in small groups or in 1:1 situations
- Working with children with Special Needs and/or disabilities and/or challenging behaviours
- Preparation of appropriate resources
- Familiar with the use of technological equipment e.g. use of Excel & Word
- Understanding of inclusion and how it applies in a school setting
- Recognise potential safeguarding issues and appropriately act upon them
- Build and maintain effective relationships with all students & colleagues
- Effectively communicate with a wide range of audiences
- Use standard ICT packages including Microsoft Office
- Work with children at all levels regardless of specific individual need
- Promote a positive ethos and be a good role model
- Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities
- Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality, including following general data protection regulations
- Continually improve own practice/knowledge through self-evaluation, learning from others and attending appropriate training
- Work flexibly as the workload demands
- Occasional out of hours working to support school functions/trips
- Excellent attendance record (*)

The Radclyffe School is a popular 11-16 maintained Foundation (Co-operative) Trust school in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham. The Governing Body has direct responsibility for the employment of staff, its finances, the running of the school and the outcomes it achieves. It is a larger than average secondary school with 1500 mixed gender students on roll. The school is full in every year group. Over 70% of students are from ethnic minority backgrounds, most of whom are of Pakistani or Bangladeshi heritage. Some 30% of students qualify for free school meals or a clothing grant to help with the purchase of school uniform.
