What skills and experience we're looking for
Arbour Academy is a specialist SEMH provision within the Kings Academy Trust, offering a small, nurturing environment for young people who are unable to access mainstream education. We are committed to a trauma-informed approach, where strong relationships, high expectations, and personalised support enable pupils to re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.
We are seeking a committed and skilled Teaching Assistant Level 3 (Phonics and Academic Interventions) to join our team. This role focuses on delivering targeted phonics and academic interventions to individuals and small groups, helping pupils to develop essential literacy skills, confidence, and independence.
Working closely with teaching staff and the Literacy Lead, you will deliver structured programmes, monitor pupil progress, and adapt support to meet individual needs. You will play a key role in supporting pupils with additional needs to overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful progress.
This is a non-leadership role, ideal for someone who is passionate about high-quality intervention delivery and making a direct impact on pupils’ outcomes.
We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, and committed to supporting vulnerable learners, and who thrives in a collaborative, supportive team environment.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver targeted phonics and academic interventions to individuals and small groups.
- Support pupils to develop literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs, including pupils with SEND.
- Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress within interventions.
- Support pupils’ engagement, independence, and confidence in learning.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the Literacy Lead to ensure effective support.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children, ideally delivering interventions.
- Has a good understanding of phonics and early reading development.
- Is patient, resilient, and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Can motivate and engage learners who may face barriers to education.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
- Is committed to inclusion, safeguarding, and supporting pupil wellbeing.

- A strong pastoral and therapeutic offer, including access to counselling and specialist support
- A values-driven culture where relationships, inclusion and staff wellbeing are prioritised
- The opportunity to play a key role in shaping provision and improving life chances for young people
- The opportunity to help shape the future of an ambitious, growing school
