Teaching Assistant job summary

We are looking to appoint a motivated, enthusiastic and committed person to join our classroom team as a Key Stage 3 & Key Stage 4 Teaching Assistant within both our Centres, based in Hitchin and Letchworth Garden City. The role will include classroom assistance in Core subjects as well as outdoor activities, practical involvement of physical education, Art, Cooking, Construction, Hair & Beauty etc. If you like a challenge of a diverse role then this position is for you.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and proven organisational skills and be approachable, calm and positive. You should be a team player, who is also able to work on your own and use your own initiative.

You will need to hold a current valid driver’s licence, as you will be required to travel between our Hitchin and Letchworth Garden City sites.

The duties and responsibilities listed in the job description are, as it is at present. The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary.

The salary will be H4 (£25,183 - £26,409) pro-rata depending on experience

North Herts Education Support Centre

The North Herts Education Support Centre is an Ofsted Outstanding Provider of educational programmes to support students who are at serious risk of permanent exclusion or who have been permanently excluded from their mainstream school.

The centre’s vision is to inspire and enable all students to achieve their full potential.

At KS3 the focus of centre work is to re-engage the students with their learning and reintegrate them into a mainstream school or appropriate setting. The teaching support team works closely with all stakeholders in supporting students who are experiencing emotional, social, behaviour challenges that are impacting on their school success.

At KS4 students are provided with an alternative provision where it is acknowledged that a mainstream setting is not meeting their needs. Students are offered a wide variety of opportunities for accreditation, including GCSE courses (OCR, Pearson, AQA) and a number of Vocational courses (City and Guilds, BTEC, etc.)

The North Herts Education Support Centre’s success is built upon strong partnerships with schools and other services and most importantly, with young people and their parents and carers.
