Teaching Assistant or Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

Hospital and Outreach Education AP Academy (HOE) are currently seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant or Teaching Assistant to work in our service across Northamptonshire. The role, at this time, involves working with pupils and supporting them in our bases, but may extend to working within homes and supporting reintegration to home schools in the future.

HOE works with pupils in Northampton and Kettering General Hospitals, The Sett and Burrows CAMHS inpatient units, Delapre Learning Centre, Stanwick Lakes and in pupils’ homes across Northamptonshire. Staff have a usual place of work defined each day but are required to be flexible in terms of their deployment at our different locations based on pupil need. For this reason the position is an essential car user role. You will be able to claim for any mileage travelled during the working day but not for commuting to your usual place of work.

This is a very exciting opportunity to work in the Alternative Provision field with young people who are unable to attend their usual schools due to their physical or mental health needs.

Hours: Part-time, negotiable hours but ideally up to 34 hours per week across five days, term time only. A job share may be considered.

Salary (depending on experience)

Teaching Assistant - (8-11) £27,709 - £29,070 FTE (based on 37 hours full time)

Higher Level Teaching Assistant - (11-14) £29,070 - £30,515 FTE (based on 37 hours full time)

HOE is part of the Skylark Partnership Trust, a multi academy trust which is for settings delivering education for pupils with medical needs. It is renowned for having a climate of high expectations of pupils, despite the impact of their illness, enabling them to access education and fulfil their potential.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our highly successful AP Academy. Ofsted recently inspected HOE and found that “Relationships between pupils and staff are warm and trusting.” We were graded Good overall with Outstanding for ‘Personal Development’ and ‘Behaviour and Attitudes’.

We hold the Enhanced Values Based Education Award and Ofsted found that “The school’s values of hope, resilience, trust, compassion, cooperation, respect and honesty underpin all the work at Hospital and Outreach Education”. The successful candidate will be closely aligned with the core values and ethos of HOE and possess a genuine understanding and appreciation of the challenges faced by pupils with medical and mental health difficulties in accessing education.

You are welcome to contact us to find out more about the role before completing the application. Please ring the office on 01604 662250 or email the Headteacher, James Shryane, at jshryane@nhoe.org.uk to arrange a visit or discussion.
