Teaching Assistant - Reading Champion (Level 2) job summary

Vacancy for a Reading Champion at West Town Primary Academy!

Salary: Grade 5, Points 5 £18,841 (salary based on 32.5 hours, 38 weeks).

Hours: 32.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (term time only).

We have an exciting opportunity for a Reading Champion at West Town Primary Academy! This rewarding role will involve the promotion of reading and literacy in our school and will include overseeing intervention programmes using our ‘Little Wandle’ reading and phonics resources. This is a role with opportunities for development and you will be working alongside our Early Reading and Phonics Lead and teaching staff in the aim of supporting our children to become confident and independent readers. You will be leading small group interventions and providing one-to-one reading support as well as promoting reading widely across the school and developing additional resources for interventions. This will be a fun, varied and fulfilling role where you will be engaging effectively with children, teaching staff and parents/carers.

The ideal candidate:

  • Grade 5/C or above in GCSE English & Mathematics (or equivalent)
  • Will have a love of reading!
  • Practical experience of working with children and young people
  • Is able to form good relationships with children and work in partnerships with parents, colleagues and other professionals
  • Is able to provide focused one-to-one support
  • Is an excellent communicator and can work well in a team
  • Willingness to undertake training
  • An understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues
