Teaching Assistant - Resource Base job summary

Clarendon Academy is looking for a caring and motivated Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated Resource Base for students with complex cognition and learning needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to provide support for secondary aged students who require a more specialist provision than mainstream, but who do not need a special school.

Working Hours: Part time (30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks per year, includes Teacher Training Days). Required: September 2025.

Clarendon Academy is a thriving co-educational, non-denominational secondary school and sixth form, educating young people between the ages of 11 and 18. Located in the bustling town of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, we pride ourselves on being a centre of excellence where young, enthusiastic children enter in Year 7 and leave us at the end of Year 13 as fully rounded young adults. Our staff aim for every lesson, every day, to be exceptional and work tirelessly to ensure students feel that they belong and can achieve their dreams. We are part of the Acorn Education Trust, which provides exciting opportunities to collaborate and improve local education. In June 2023 we retained our ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and were praised for offering a high-quality, well sequenced curriculum with the inspectors commenting that “pupils feel safe and cared for in this welcoming and friendly school.”

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be passionate about supporting pupils with learning difficulties, speech, language and communication needs, and be able to work with small groups of students requiring SEND support. You will work with other members of staff within the Resource Base and the wider SEND team to help students progress in their learning, and will make a real difference to their school lives.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a passion for delivering high quality and exciting opportunities for children and supporting them in their development;
  • Is committed to supporting the teaching of pupils with complex cognition and learning needs;
  • Has strong interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work with a variety of pupils, staff and parents;
  • Enjoys working with young people and can develop good working relationships with them;
  • Is self-motivated, dedicated and consistent;
  • Has the ability to deal with new challenging situations;
  • Has a positive and flexible attitude;
  • Is a strong team player as who can use their own initiative;
  • Understands and is sympathetic to the needs of young people;
  • Has experience of supporting student’s learning;
  • Has a current First Aid or is prepared to undertake training;
  • Has experience working with pupils with SEND (advantageous).

We can offer the successful candidate:

  • Training opportunities;
  • The opportunity to further your career;
  • Supportive line management and networking opportunities with other Resource Bases within the Trust;
  • A caring and dynamic team of colleagues;
  • A commitment to achieving the best for all of our pupils and staff.
