Fred Nicholson School is a Complex Needs School meeting the needs of young people with learning difficulties and associated needs from 7yrs-18yrs. Our pupils learn through an EYFS and Primary based curriculum in line with their cognitive ability. 

If you have worked in a school using these curriculum approaches, your skills would be transferrable to all age groups within our school. If you have not worked in a school before but have a passion to work within SEN we can support you in developing these skills.

Within the Main School, pupils work in classes of approximately 12 and our curriculum is delivered in a practical, hands-on way to encourage engagement and learning and most importantly, so our pupils feel happy and successful. 

We also have our Specialist ASC Resource Base, Orchard, that supports pupils on a 1:1 basis, providing bespoke curriculums tailored to the needs and interests of each individual. Details of vacancies in Orchard can be found on a separate advert.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated, hardworking and imaginative team. 

Working Hours & Salary:

  • Roles are available for 32.5 hours pw, term time plus 1 week. Hours of work Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 08.45am-3.30pm and Tuesday 08.45am-4.30pm.
  • Part time (i.e. a reduced number of days per week) applications can be considered however on these days, the ability to complete the working hours listed above is essential.  
  • Paid at Scale D from £25,583- £25,989 pa FTE (32.5 hrs pw) 
  • Permanent role, 6 month probation period including a staff induction programme

Successful candidates will be working in a classroom setting under the guidance and direction of the class teacher to support groups of children or individual pupils to access learning.

  • have a commitment to training - we are committed to our investment in staff and you will access an induction programme, whole school CPD opportunities and any further training that may be appropriate to your role.
