Teaching Assistant (SEND) - Level 1 job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Millside Spencer Academy for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join our ever growing team.

Our SEND Teaching Assistants provide direct support to our children with additional needs either individually or in small groups. We are looking for Teaching Assistants who are looking to develop their skills and experience and can demonstrate the below essential qualities:

  • Empathy and patience: The ability to remain calm and show sensitivity and understanding towards pupils with complex needs.
  • Strong communication skills: The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, and other professionals and to adapt communication styles to suit individual needs.
  • Resilience and flexibility: A resourceful and adaptable approach to working with children whose needs may change from day to day.
  • Teamwork: The ability to work collaboratively and follow instructions from teaching staff and senior leaders
  • Commitment to safeguarding: A firm understanding of safeguarding procedures and the dedication to ensuring the welfare of all pupils.

Purpose of Role

To contribute to School objectives by effectively and efficiently undertaking a range of duties to support the excellent teaching and learning of pupils; providing general and specific assistance to pupils in all aspects of the curriculum under the strategic direction of the Principal and with daily guidance and supervision from the classroom teacher.

Measurable Performance Objectives for classroom-based Education support professionals will relate to:

  • The delivery of high-quality support to children and young people
  • Accelerating the progress of groups
  • Developing high quality resources
