Sherbrook Primary School is a nurturing and inclusive special school for children aged 2 to 11 with a wide range of additional needs, including MLD, SLD, ASC, and PMLD.

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role involves providing tailored support to pupils with additional needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning, and assisting teachers in delivering high-quality education. You will also act as a Cover Supervisor during short-term teacher absences, ensuring continuity of learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral and learning support to pupils, including those with complex needs.
  • Assist in implementing Individual Education and Behaviour Plans.
  • Support pupils’ social, health, and hygiene development.
  • Supervise classes during teacher absence, following pre-planned work.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to plan and evaluate learning activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide feedback on pupil progress.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents/carers and external professionals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with pupils with additional needs.
  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants (or equivalent), plus strong literacy/numeracy skills (GCSE C or above).
  • Knowledge of child development, SEN strategies, and relevant policies.
  • Effective ICT skills and ability to use classroom technology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and show initiative.
