Teaching Assistants job summary
The John of Gaunt School are looking for a number of passionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join their team from 01/09/2025. The John of Gaunt School is a unique, vibrantand highly successful school. The School has a strong reputation for both academic and pastoral excellence. Whilst we are first and foremost a place of learning, we strive to ensure that students are academically nurtured and cared for in a safe environment in which they can be happy, grow, gain in confidence and be challenged to achieve in all aspects of school life.
Hours of work will be 30 hours per week for 39 weeks per year.
Main Purpose
Work with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of students
Promote students’ independence, self-esteem and social inclusion
Give support to students, individually or in groups, so they can access the curriculum, take part in learning and experience a sense of achievement
Teaching and Learning
Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher, and increase achievement of all students including, where appropriate, those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
Whole-school organisation, strategy and development
Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s values and vision
Professional Development
Help keep their own knowledge and understanding relevant and up-to-date by reflecting on their own practice, liaising with the SENCO, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness
Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school

This role will involve contact with children and the post holder will be engaged in regulated activity relevant to children and will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before appointment is confirmed. We will only submit a DBS application to the relevant disclosure service when a position is accepted.
