Technology Technician (Food) job summary

Technology Technician (Food)
Consett Academy
Maternity Cover
To start June 2026

Consett Academy is seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Food Technology Technician to join our thriving Technology department on a maternity cover basis from June 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, organised and reliable individual who is confident in a kitchen environment and passionate about supporting young people in their learning.

Working under the guidance of the Head of Department and teaching staff, you will provide essential support in the preparation and maintenance of specialist equipment, resources and materials for Food Technology lessons. You will ensure the timely and accurate preparation of ingredients and equipment, maintain a safe, orderly and productive working environment, and monitor and manage stock and supplies effectively.

You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of health and safety, demonstrating the safe and effective use of equipment and supporting pupils in accessing learning activities. The role includes maintaining records as required, undertaking routine administrative tasks, assisting with the supervision of pupils, and contributing positively to the wider life and ethos of the school. A strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries is essential.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience or qualifications within a food or catering environment, be confident using a wide range of kitchen equipment, and demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills. You will be able to work effectively as part of a team, build positive relationships with students and staff, and remain calm and professional in a busy school setting. A current food hygiene certificate and first aid qualification would be advantageous.

At Consett Academy, we offer a supportive and collaborative working environment, access to high-quality training and professional development, and a leadership team that values staff wellbeing and teamwork. You will join a school community where your contribution is recognised and valued.
