TEMPORARY EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) TEACHING ASSISTANT job summary

1. Supporting Learning and Development

  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering activities aligned with the EYFS curriculum.
  • Support individual and small groups of children to access learning opportunities.
  • Encourage children’s independence, curiosity, and positive attitudes to learning.
  • Contribute to the observation and assessment of children’s progress using the EYFS framework.
  • Support children’s language, communication, and social skills development through high-quality interactions.

2. Care and Welfare

  • Promote children’s personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Assist with toileting, personal care, and hygiene routines as required.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times, following safeguarding and health & safety policies.
  • Help create a calm, positive, and inclusive learning environment.

3. Classroom Organisation

  • Prepare and maintain learning resources, displays, and the indoor/outdoor learning environment.
  • Support the teacher with record-keeping and administrative tasks.
  • Supervise children during playtimes, lunchtimes, and on educational visits as needed.

4. Partnership and Communication

  • Build positive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Contribute to team meetings and share observations about children’s progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies and procedures.
