What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Textiles Technician to join our Design & Technology department. This is a vital support role that helps ensure our students can access a high-quality, creative and safe learning experience in textiles. Working closely with teaching staff, the technician will prepare and maintain resources and equipment, assist during practical lessons and support the smooth day-to-day running of the department.

The successful candidate will bring practical knowledge of textiles processes, including the use of sewing machines (both manual and computerised), fabric preparation and dyeing techniques. You will play a key part in supporting students as they develop their skills, including demonstrating safe and effective use of equipment, setting up practical activities and maintaining a clean, organised environment that promotes learning.

In addition to the technical aspects of the role, you will also carry out routine maintenance, stock management and support with displays and departmental administration. There is an important focus on health and safety, and you will contribute to risk assessments, help ensure compliance with regulations and uphold the high standards expected across the school.

This post also includes a requirement to assist with exam invigilation during exam periods, and all staff are expected to contribute to the school’s safeguarding culture by following procedures and reporting any concerns appropriately.

We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and confident in supporting both staff and students. If you are passionate about textiles, enjoy practical work and want to make a difference in a school community that values creativity, teamwork and care, we would be delighted to receive your application.
