Medeshamstede Academy have an exciting work-based route into teaching opportunity, we are looking for a Trainee Teacher to join our team. Medeshamstede Academy is an all-through academy for students with autism as their main presenting need. The Trainee Teacher would be based in our primary team.
About the role:
Are you an aspiring Teacher who is passionate about enhancing the provision for children and young people with special educational needs? We are seeking to appoint a fantastic candidate who is dedicated in completing their training and development at Medeshamstede Academy.
To be successful you will be a creative, nurturing individual dedicated to ensuring that pupils’ needs are met, providing them with a positive learning journey and helping them to achieve their aspirations. The academy uses the TEACCH approach to underpin the learning environment and curriculum delivery and you will be well supported to use this within your own practice.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring Teacher who wishes to work in a unique environment. The role will expose you to challenging situations involving pupils with significant Special Educational Needs; therefore experience of working with students with Autism would be advantageous.
You will have achieved the following minimum requirements:
- A degree awarded by a UK higher education provider, or a recognised equivalent qualification.
- A standard equivalent to grade C/4, or above, in GCSE English, mathematics and science examinations
- Demonstrate you hold the right to work and study in the UK and/or have been resident in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years.
The successful candidate will also be required to complete a DfE application and further selection process with Best Practice Network prior to offer.

Medeshamstede Academy opened in 2012 as a new, purpose-built provision within Greenwood Academies Trust. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care plan with autism as their main presenting need. Our curriculum is broad and relevant; delivered through termly themed imaginative learning projects which support appropriate pre-formal, semi-formal and formal learning pathways towards independent learning. In key stage 4, a range of accreditation is offered from entry level to GCSE to prepare pupils for their next stage of education.
