Trust Clerk job summary

Thank you for your interest in the Trust Clerk to Local Governing Committees role for a start date as soon as possible

This is an exciting time to join us. The Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust (DCET) opened on 1 March 2022 with six primary schools as one of the first Catholic multi-academy trust’s (MATs) in the Clifton Diocese. Since then, the DCET has grown to oversee ten Catholic primary schools based in Somerset, North Somerset and Wiltshire with a combined total of circa 1700 pupils, 300 staff and a £10m budget. However, the Bishop’s ambitious growth plan means it is expected to expand to a mix of 20+ primary and secondary schools over the next three years. More details about the Trust, its vision, values and schools can be found via: The Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust (thedcet.com).

The Trust Board seeks to appoint a Trust Clerk to Local Governing Committees (LGC) on a permanent, part-time and hybrid working basis who will lead the provision of clerking support, advice and guidance to governors and headteachers in more than one LGC, with each meeting six times per year. As a growing Trust, school LGCs will be grouped into geographically based hubs over time including: Somerset, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset (BANES), South Gloucestershire, North and South Wiltshire.

Joining the Trust now offers the opportunity to collaborate with the Trust Governance Professional and peers in the termly Trust Chairs and Clerks Forum meetings to shape governance and clerking team best practice across the Trust.

Handover support can be arranged plus transition, coaching and mentoring support from experienced Trust Clerk peers and the Trust Governance Professional if required. Access to ongoing continuous professional development is available via the Trust’s membership of the Confederation of School Trusts and National Governance Association.

The DCET governance structure diagram is shown below and more details can be found via: Governance (thedcet.com). You will need to work flexibly to attend formal meetings, either in person or virtually, which are often held in the early evening to accommodate busy volunteers with daytime commitments.
