Job title: Trust Leader for SEND

Location: Across our schools as required with an office base at Ringshall one day per week

Hours: 2 days per week

Salary/grade: L5

Key Responsibilities and Strategic Leadership

The Trust Leader for SEND will work alongside the Director of Inclusion to shape, implement and monitor SEND and inclusive practices across the Trust. This will include advising and supporting staff at all levels on matters relating to SEND, equality, and inclusive practice. This includes:

  • Strategic Planning and Policy Development: Supporting the Director of Inclusion in developing, implementing, and rigorously monitoring a cohesive, high-impact Trust-wide SEND and Inclusion Strategy, associated policies and oversight of our Flourish provision. This ensures strict adherence to the SEND Code of Practice 2015, the Equality Act 2010, and current national and local guidance. ……..

  • Quality Assurance and Auditing: Undertake SEND Audits across all schools to assess the effectiveness and compliance of provision, identifying areas for strategic improvement and accountability. ………….

  • Expert Guidance and Advice: Serving as the Trust's subject matter expert, providing timely, informed, and precise advice and guidance to SENDCos and other leaders and other leaders on complex statutory and operational SEND matters. …..

  • SENDCO Development and Mentoring: Lead the thriving network for SENDCOs, providing tailored mentoring and supportive professional challenge, particularly supporting those new to the role to ensure rapid development of highly effective practice. …..

  • Driving High Standards: Elevating the quality of provision for all pupils with SEND, focusing on securing improved outcomes across academic, social, emotional, and independence domains. ………

  • Compliance and Statutory Duty: Support SENDCos and school Senior Leadership Teams to ensure they uphold the schools' statutory SEND responsibilities ……

  • Professional Development: Designing and leading a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for staff, promoting Quality First Teaching (QFT) and expert application of the Graduated Approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review). …..

  • Collaboration: Foster a reciprocal working relationship with other Trust leaders to ensure alignment of Trust practices through an inclusive lens; reflecting up-to-date research, guidance and best practice.

The Successful Candidate

We are seeking an inspiring leader with a demonstrable track record of success in driving inclusive practice.

Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • Senior Leadership Experience: Proven experience as a SENDCo and/or at a senior level in primary education focusing on SEND and inclusion with experience of raising standards and providing CPD.

  • Statutory Qualification: Be an experienced, qualified teacher and hold the mandatory National Award for SEN Co-ordination (NASENCo) or equivalent high-level qualification in Specialist Education.

  • Expert Knowledge: Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the English legal and policy framework for SEND and equality. Proven ability to observe pupils and recommend next steps and to support staff to implement inclusive strategies.

  • Inspirational Leadership: The ability to lead, mentor, and motivate staff and professionals across multiple sites, fostering a collaborative and accountable culture of Inclusion.

  • Co-Production Commitment: A deep commitment to effective co-production with pupils and parents/carers, ensuring their voices are central to decision-making.

Core Competencies: The post requires exceptional communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills, aligned with the formal demands of the role. The candidate must be adept at working collaboratively within a wider inclusion leadership structure, using data to measure impact and drive strategic improvement.
