Purpose of the role:

Inspiring Futures Partnership Trust Lead SENDCo will lead and champion SEND across our Trust in our primary academy and nursery provisions. They will provide professional leadership support to other IFPT SENDCos to ensure highly effective and efficient SEND provision and the robust implementation of the Trust’s SEND policy. They will:

  • Provide professional SEND leadership and management support across the Trust
  • Lead and coordinate the continued development of IFPT’s SEND provision
  • Develop a strategic view, within the context of the Trust’s aims and policies
  • Be a member of IFPT’s Senior Leadership Team.

Job context:

This job description should be read alongside the range of professional duties of teachers as set out in the Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, Teachers’ Standard (2012) and paragraph 6.90 (on pages 108-109) of the SEND Code of Practice which sets out the main responsibilities of the SENDCo. IFPT’s Lead Trust SENDCo will always undertake activities in a manner which reflects the vision, aims, strategic plan and policies of Inspiring Futures Partnership Trust. The post holder will carry out the duties of the Trust Lead SENDCo in consultation with academy-based SENDCos and where appropriate, with the CEO, Trust Business Manager, IFPT Executive Leadership Team, Trustees, Academy Committee Representatives, staff, parents, carers and external organisations such as Bucks Council.

This role is subject to change as IFPT and the academies within the Trust grow and develop, and so is being offered as a fixed term contract for the academic year 2025/26 with a usual time allocation of half a day per week. The Trust Lead SENDCo has the flexibility to distribute their time as they see fit to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner. This position is paid on the leadership pay scale 1-3 (depending upon experience and qualifications), with this pay scale applied to existing SENDCo contracted hours of work.

In addition to new settings joining IFPT, IFPT has expressed interest with Bucks Council, and developed plans for a 12 place additionally resourced centre (ARC or Unit) at Chepping View with SEMH designation. IFPT is also opening, subject to build progress, a 12 place SEMH ARC at Orchard View Primary Academy in September 2026. These exciting and much needed specialist SEND provision expansion plans provide an insight into IFPT’s commitment to inclusion and future possible SEND specific leadership opportunities. Accountable to: The SEND Trustee, CEO and Head/Principal of each academy.

Trust Lead SENDCo will have overall responsibility for leading and coordinating the SEND activities of all IFPT SENDCos in:

  • Leading the exploration, design and implementation of highly effective and efficient SEND provision and initiatives across the Trust
  • Coordinate and lead the termly quality assurance/moderation of all SEND provision across IFPT
  • Leading and coordinating effective SEND specific professional growth activities (CPD) and modelling of SEND provision, to coach, train and develop colleagues
  • Supporting the identification of SEND needs and application for additional funding, resources and advice/guidance for children with SEND
  • Leading and coordinating the completion and updating of required SEND documents, for example: SEND Policy, SEND Report to Trustees and ACRs, SEND pupil records
  • Chairing IFPT’s SENDCO half termly meetings
  • Acts as a SEND advocate at Trust level and attend Trust Board meetings as and when required
  • Supporting the updating of the SEND areas of each academies’ website
  • Coordinating the management of IFPT’s SEND TEAMS resource folder
  • Supporting other SENDCOs with advice and guidance as and when required
  • Attending SEND panels during academy holiday periods
  • Performance Manage IFPT’s SENDCOs
  • Being a Steps trainer for IFPT staff
  • Support IFPT’s engagement in system leadership activities related to SEND (School to School support).
